Abstract

One of the objectives of school education is to promote among students the understanding of the diverse culture, traditions and social systems of people belonging to different parts of the country. In National Curriculum Framework 2005, a paradigm shift has been noticed in the objective of art education from dignity of labour by working with hands to development of aesthetic sensibility and free expression. For their self- expression and widening of experiences, it is essential that children are made to learn by doing and exposed to various art forms. The framework recommended inclusion of art as a subject at all stages covering music, dance, visual and performing arts. Having felt the need of integration of various art forms into school curriculum, considering the role of a teacher is equally important. The present article attempts to emphasize the need of preparing teachers for art integration in teaching and learning, both at pre- service and in- service level. Case of D. El. Ed course from Jamia Millia Islamia has been put forward.
