Ethnic Identity formation movement is a common affair found in North East India. All most all communities are placing demand and fighting for their unique identity with various demands. Some are fighting for Development Council, some are fighting for ST Status, some are fighting for Autonomous Council, some are fighting for Territorial Council under Sixth Schedule and some are fighting for Separate State. In this movement the traditional and civil organizations play a very important role to achieve their goal. The Misings, the second largest plain tribe of Assam is not exception to it and the organizations have played a very important role in the movement. This paper is a modest attempt to analyze the structure, agenda and role played by the traditional organizations in the Identity Formation of the Misings. |
