Rapid urbanization in India has transformed several cities into high-density growth centers, resulting in significant pressure on civic amenities and urban infrastructure. Growing cities face challenges such as inadequate water supply, inefficient waste management, irregular electricity distribution, poor sanitation, and limited public transportation. The influx of migrants seeking employment exacerbates housing shortages and strains healthcare, education, and recreational facilities. The imbalance between urban population growth and infrastructure development leads to deteriorating quality of life and environmental degradation. Effective urban planning, integrated policy frameworks, and public-private partnerships are essential to address these challenges. This paper examines the correlation between rapid urban growth and the inadequacy of civic amenities, highlighting case studies from major Indian cities. It also emphasizes sustainable strategies, technological interventions, and governance reforms required to ensure equitable access to essential urban services and to promote livable and resilient urban environments. |
