For the last several decades, women’s empowerment has been a hot topic in India and across the globe. The development of people’s resources and capacities to exert influence, control, and accountability over institutions that impact their lives is referred to as empowerment (World Bank Resource Book). The fact that women are in a condition of economic, political, social, and knowledge disempowerment is a significant barrier to economic growth. Self-Help Groups (SHGs) are a key tool for empowering women and reducing poverty. SHGs provide women the right platform to become economically empowered, which leads to their cultural, social, psychological, and political empowerment. |
