| Abstract | ||
| Feelings travel with employees into every office, branch, hospital ward and call centre, yet management practice in India has long treated them as private matters. This conceptual paper examines how emotions are experienced, displayed and regulated at work & what they mean for Indian organisations. Twenty-seven peer-reviewed studies published between 1990 and 2019 were identified, screened and synthesised in chronological order, eleven of which were carried out in Indian settings. The synthesis led to an integrative framework in which cultural context, organisational factors and individual resources shape emotional processes, which in turn influence employee and organisational outcomes, with psychological safety and organisational support acting as moderators. The review shows that surface acting erodes well-being, whereas deep acting and emotional intelligence protect it. It further shows that Indian service and technology employees carry a heavy emotional load & that supportive organisations soften these costs. The paper recommends that emotional competence be built into recruitment, training and leadership development & that Indian organisations make room for honest emotional expression. Empirical testing of the framework across sectors is proposed as the next step. | ||
