| Abstract | ||
The adaptogenic herbs, Ocimum tenuiflorum and Azadirachta indica, are prominent among those herbs that enhance the body’s capacity to maintain balance in the midst of a variety of stressors. Various in vitro and in vivo studies suggest that Neem exerts anti tumor, antifungal, antiviral and anti-diabetic effects. Similarly Tulsi has been used in the treatment of cough, asthma, arthritis, gastric and cardiac diseases. However the therapeutic potential of mixture of Neem and Tulsi extract on fundamental cell proliferation has not been studied yet. Hence, the present study was designed to investigate the effect of mixture of Neem and Tulsi extract on cell proliferation using human kidney embryonic cell line HEK293. Hence for this purpose these cells were treated with different doses of Tulsi and Neem (5 µl/ml, 10 µl/ml and 20 µl/ml). The results indicated that the 10 µl/ml dose of mixture of Tulsi and Neem extract increased cell proliferation. These effects were examined through increased filling of the area of scratch by scratch assay and also increased percent viability of cells using MTT assay. |
