An Analysis of John Osborne’s Look Back In Anger: A Social or Personal Concern

Abstract

John Osborne’s play Look Back In Anger (1956) was highly acclaimed by the directors and audience especially when the circumstances were quite opposed for the playwright. The present study aims to find out the concern of the playwright over the lied frustration of the society through analyzing the social and personal aspects. To meet the supposed objectives certain scenes and positions of the play are analyzed in order to take a stance over the concern of the playwright. The role model Jimmy Porter is presented with a keen notion of highlighting the lied frustration especially in the youngsters at that time. In bringing the issues into the light, the focus has been shifted from social to personal or presented the both element. The protagonist is presented as an angry young man who becomes the victims of his own disillusionment and despair. The aim of this writing is to derive out the elements which are responsible for the background and foreground of the future of the society.
