Household Size in Haryana: A Geographical Perspective

Abstract

This paper utilizes district-level data on therural and urban household size in Haryana for the year 2001 and 2011. There are two main objectives of this present paper to study the trend of household size, and differences between rural-urban household. This work is based on secondary data and collected from census of India 2001 and 2011. The data is tabulated and calculated the differential between household size during 2001 and 2011. According to Census of India, the average size of the household is i.e. 5.7 and 5.2 persons per household in 2001 and 2011 respectively. The researcher has established a negative correlation between the level of urbanization and household size (r = -0.46), a positive correlation between household size and a number of never-married plus widowed and divorced persons in the total population (r = 0.35).
