The Indian Ocean Region provides one of the world's busiest supply lines for both commercial and primary energy. The region's flow of energy is sensitive to complex strategic key locations. Any disruption caused whether by unexpected incidents or sustained improvements could, therefore, create havoc for the entire security of global energy. India has accrued certain natural strategic advantages in the Indian Ocean through a unique geostrategic position. India is essentially dependent on the region's vital maritime energy supply lines. The safeguarding of the Indian Ocean Region thus becomes the natural prerogative of India. China and America are also playing their game in the Indian Ocean Region to complete their energy need. This situation has created a competitive situation in the region. This article seeks to recognize the vital element of the Indian Ocean maritime resources in India's energy security and to figure out India's strategic objective to that impact. |
