Abstract

This paper tries to briefly examine the intellectual heritage of Indian courtesans, with particular attention paid to their contributions to feminist literature, performative art, and philosophy. This study shows how courtesans like Begum Roquiah Sakhawat Hossain, Gauhar Jaan, Hazrat Mahal, Begum Akhtar, and Jaddan Bai fought against patriarchal conventions and promoted women's emancipation through historical documents, literary works, and cultural objects.
