Study on the Sculptural Features of the Madurai Temples: A Brief Study on Meenakshi Ammam Temple

Abstract

Madurai "South India Athens" enjoys pride of place on the Indian subcontinent. Its ancient history, cultural resources and strategic location are the factors that are responsible for its development as a tourist centre. Madurai occupies a special location within the history of the Hindu faith. The famous Goddess Meenakshi Amman is well known. Madurai is Tamilnadu's second largest city, and is situated on the banks of the Vaigai River. It is located between latitude 7°57' and 11° 10' and north, and east longitude 77° 50' and 79° 85.' Madurai has many names, including Koodal , Nanmadakoodal, Tiruvalavai and others. Just like Mohenjadaro, Madurai is a well-planned city. Meenakshi Amman Temple is situated right in the center of town. The temple is surrounded by streets named "Adi , Avani , and Masi" ,the names of 3 Tamil months. Between the 13th and 19th centuries the majority of Sri Meenakshi Temple was installed. This paper "Madurai Menakshi Amman Temple features" looks at Thirumalai Nayak 's special aesthetic feature , and contribution to this temple.
