South Asia: A Region without Regionalism

| Abstract | ||
South Asian region is one of the poorest regions in the world. Despite this fact, the countries of the region not only continuously plagued into inter-state warfare but also create a fear of a nuclear escalation in the region. That is why it also earned a title of „nuclear flashpoint‟ on earth. It was against this background, South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) an organization was created in December 1985 to address the common issues of the regional countries. But after several decades of its existence, SAARC failed to create „cohesive regionalism‟ in South Asia. The paper attempts to answer the question why South Asian region lacks unity despite many efforts made by the regional countries? |
