Role of Industrial Areas in Employment Generation: A case study of Raipur District, Chhattisgarh

The industrilisation has been regarded as a major player in the sustainable development and employment generation in all nations across the globe and in India. Due to rich natural resources, labour resources and geo-climatic conditions in India the industrial growth has been projected with pace. Chhattisgarh is a newly formed state and the industrial growth started late than other states, but in the current era this state has establishes a wide network of industrial areas in its all districts. These industrial areas of Chhattisgarh are providing a wide ratio of employment to its people. The present study examines the role of industrial areas of Raipur District, Chhattisgarh in employment generation. The study includes both primary and secondary data. The secondary data was collected from Department of Commerce and Industries, Government of Chhattisgarh. The primary data include a pretested self structured questionnaire dealing with the employment status of industries in industrial areas of Raipur Chhattisgarh. It has been reported that the industrial areas of Raipur provides employment to 52883 people till 2019. The industrial area Urla one of the major industrial area of Raipur provides employment to twenty thousand people.  It has been reported employs in Industrial areas of Raipur have been classified into four categories viz; highly skilled, skilled, low skilled and unskilled. Across the total employs in industrial areas of Raipur 36% were unskilled, 18% were highly skilled, 29% were skilled and 17% of the employs were low skilled. The industrial areas were maximum in Raipur District of Chhattisgarh. The concept of “Naya Raipur” has attracted the investors and new industrial areas, parks, units etc are being continuously established in Raipur.
