| Abstract | ||
Teacher Effectiveness stems from a combination of knowledge, skills and personal characteristics. Empathy is an important aspect for teacher because teachers with higher empathy understand their students’ more. So the present paper tries to find out the relationship between empathy and teacher effectiveness among teachers of various schools of Ludhiana, Punjab. There are 98 private schools (CBSE & PSEB) in Ludhiana. Questionnaires were distributed to 50 schools and 300 teachers from 33 private schools taking senior secondary classes filled the questionnaire. Correlation and regression techniques were used and the results showed a positive and close relationship between empathy and teacher effectiveness. Significant relationship has been found between empathy and emotional component. On the other hand, positive but very little relationship has been witnessed between empathy and personality characteristics. The data underscore the importance of designing teacher training programmes where teacher should be guided to nurture empathy for better understanding of the student and classroom environment so that academic achievement may become a reality for all students. |
