Relationship between Emotional Intelligence and Academic Performance among Scheduled Tribe students at Higher Education in Hooghly District

Abstract

Emotional Intelligence plays a key role to being successful in life. With the help of good emotional intelligence, a person can able to control his or her emotions and understands other people feelings well. Present study aimed to investigate the prevalence rate of emotional intelligence among Scheduled Tribe students at Higher Education level in Hooghly district. A cross-sectional study design adopted for the study with 120 sample units. Major findings emerged through the study that students studying arts found to have lower Emotional Intelligence than students studying science, Post-graduation students were found significantly higher in Emotional Intelligence scale than Under-graduation students, students belonging from urban areas were found significantly higher in Emotional Intelligence scale than Rural students and emotional Intelligence score and academic performance is positively correlated but there was no statistical significance (p>0.05).
