| Abstract | ||
Mahasweta Devi strove hard for the rights of tribals and Dalit. Tribal people’s plight is skillfully projected in her fictional works. Her characters are the epitome of rare courage who fought against the cultural hegemony as well as inhuman policies of the government. Devi’s works signify social and economic exploitation of tribals. She held responsible to caste system, cultural hegemony, and government’s policies for tribals’ social and economic exploitation. Because these people erodes their natural resources and land from them. She also condemned the patriarchal society where women were treated inhumanly. She criticized the gender discrimination prevalent in the society. She used her fiction as a medium of social reformation. |
