| Abstract | ||
With a diverse effect on both human lives and the environment as well as the viability of cities, urban pollution has become a serious issue of concern on an international level. High rates of urbanization, industrialization, and vehicular traffic have added to the presence of pollutants on air, water, earth, and sounds. The problem of air pollution, thoroughly explained by particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM 10), nitrogen oxides (NOx) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), causes a variety of respiratory and cardiovascular disorders, neurological diseases and mortality rates increments. Industrial penetration of water and untreated sewage causes water pollution which leads to water born diseases and poisoning. Chemical fertilizers and wastes threaten food safety as they pollute soil which further contaminate ground water. Noise pollution leads to your hearing loss, stress, sleep and heart problems, radioactive and light pollution affect your mental health and genetics. Individuals in vulnerable groups e.g. children, the elderly, and pregnant women are at a high risk. Mitigation will have to be done on a multi-sectoral basis including that of green transportation/green urban planning, renewable energy in use, waste management, air quality control and societal involvement. The active propaganda of electric vehicles, expansion of green areas, observation of exhaust standards, and popularization of emission reduction awareness are the significant measures to making cities healthier. Innovative technologies and active governance is necessary to make it sustainable in the long run and increase the result in public health. It is stressed in the study that urban pollution is not merely an environmental problem but also a severe question of public health that is not only to be taken in common but it is to be done with a lot of urgency. Sustainable urban development can decrease pollution through policy integration, infrastructure integration and education integration. |
