Abstract

The present research was aimed at the diversity profiling of the Markhor, Capra falconeri falconeri in Kaj – I – Nag National park in the state of J&K. The paper describes the importance of the National Park as a conservation site for the Markhor and the need for the amalgamation of deserted conservation sites into the one National park for overall conservation of this state treasure. The biological behavior of the Markhor is very important to understand the conservation strategies. Hence the insight into the biological behavior of the animal is provided. The detailed causes of threats to Markhor are described, which can be well taken care of by the concerned authorities to safeguard Markhor from extermination.
