Abstract

Mycobacterium tuberculosis is a common bacterium belonging to Mycobacteriaceae family.  The infection rate of Mycobacterium tuberculosis makes it very significant pathogenic bacteria.  Despite the fact that the genome of this bacterium has been extensively studied for past many years, many of its proteins are still uncharacterised and are not functionally annotated. These proteins are termed as hypothetical proteins. Hence, about 27% of the proteins discovered in Mycobacterium tuberculosis are ‘hypothetical proteins’. In this study, the functional annotation of Rv0123, a hypothetical protein in Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv was done using various online computational tools to understand its cellular and functional role in the organism.
