Impact of Emotional Intelligence on Adjustment and Academic Achievement of Secondary School Students of Darbhanga District

Abstract

It is believed that a person’s success is entirely dependent on intelligence and that a person with high intelligence is more likely to succeed in any field than a person with low intelligence. For a person to be fully adjusted in his environment, he needs to control his emotions and its effect is visible on their academic achievement and adjustment. The major objective of present study was to find out the correlation between emotional intelligence, adjustment and academic achievement. Descriptive survey design has been adopted for the present research. For this purpose, a total sample of 200 taken from the 10 secondary schools of Darbhanga district by stratified sampling technique. Total three tools have been administrated for the data collection which are Mangal & Mangal Emotional Intelligence Inventory, Sinha & Sinha Adjustment Scale and self-developed Scholastic Achievement. The result of the study revealed that the emotional intelligence of secondary school students was found below average, adjustment was found very good and academic achievement was obtained average. The correlation between emotional intelligence and adjustment was found positive. The coefficient of correlation between emotional intelligence and academic achievement also shows a positive correlation between them but value of correlation was not found very high or high. It is just an average positive correlation.
