| Abstract | ||
An evaluation of the toxic effects of monocrotophos (MCP), an organophosphate on ovaries was made by histochemical studies of proteins after treatment with 1/5th of LD50 dose (14 mg/kg body weight) to three groups of six female albino rats each for 15 days (TI), 30 days (TII), 30 days with recovery period of 15 days (R) respectively. Other three groups were kept as corresponding controls for all the treated groups and were fed on normal diet. In both TI & TII groups, the pesticide caused a significant decrease in the concentration of proteins along with the degenerative changes in ovaries. The observations are thus indicative of the reproductive toxicity caused by MCP at histochemical as well as histological level whereas R group showed significant recovery. |
