Abstract

Attracting the qualified personnel and matching them to the job they really fit into, is important for any organizational success. At the global level, there is a huge challenge in recruiting and developing the manpower. For this organizations all across invest more time and money. To fill the manpower gap globally, organizations mostly rely on four basic sources i.e. Home or Parent country nationals, Host country nationals, and third country nationals or expatriates. Majorly there is an issue of expatriate management that is expatriate failure. This explains about premature return of an expatriate manager to his country. This issue represents firms’ failure in choosing selection policies in identifying individuals who could not thrive abroad. There could be many a reason for this, like – personality of the expatriate, inability of the spouse to get adjusted to new environment, or any other family problems, some of them could be manager’s personal / emotional maturity, his inability to handle overseas responsibilities abroad. The following study highlights various issues and challenges in expatriate management which can facilitate expatriate in host country thereby reducing the failure rate.
