Abstract

Dr. Bhimrao Babasaheb Ramji Ambedkar was a great son of India who devoted his life to the battle for social change in India. During the time of the Middle Ages, Indian society was suffering from several social issues, like discrimination in the caste system, untouchability, violation of human rights, poverty, illiteracy, etc. Though after the Middle age, the process of social change in India started with the Renaissance in the eighteen Century by Raja Ram Mohan Roy, and in this process, Dr. Ambedkar also made his great contribution. Dr. Ambedkar was very critical of the caste system in India. He believed that the caste system should be eliminated as it promotes social inequalities and injustice. He realized the inequalities and injustices of Indian society throughout his life as he belonged to the ‘Dalit’ community. He declared war against the discrimination and injustice that prevailed in Indian society and continued his fighting till death. He started his struggle for social change in India during the British colonial era and ended with independent India.
