Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to present an introduction to distributed databases though two main parts: in the first part, there is a study of the fundamentals of distributed databases (DDBS). I discuss issues related to the motivations of DDBS, architecture, design, performance, and concurrency control, etc. In the second part, i explore some of the research that has been done in this specific area of DDBS. The topics of this research include, query optimization, distribution optimization, fragmentation, optimization, and join optimization on the internet. It include examples and results to demonstrate the topics that are presenting.
