| Abstract | ||
While studying History of colonial Bengal/ India one can observe that the Swadeshi Era undoubtedly was the first decade of 20th century India and time of political upheaval during the Anti- Partition Movement . But this era had its cultural root in 2nd half of 19th century, in 1870s when anti- colonial revivalist nationalism began to take shape. This Swadeshi Era was one of the most prominent phases of our History marked by its glorious creative spirit. Extremist leadership took vibrant role against imperialist dominance and hegemony in 1890s and this nationalist endeavour began to take towering shape during the Anti- Partition Movement ( 1905) against conspiracy of Lord Curzon who vehemently opposed revolutionary spirit of colonial Bengal. Historically speaking the time span of this movement mentioned above was upto 1911 because in 1911, Partition of Bengal was cancelled by George V in durbar of Delhi. The Anti- Partition Movement stood on ideology of five pillars- unity of Bengal, ,boycott, swadeshi, national education and swaraj. In this article , I have tried my level best to discuss enormous impact of this movement in cultural and intellectual history of Bengal ( literature, songs, painting, national education, scientific development etc). Binay Sarkar was completely justified while saying that this era could be called phase of Banga biplab. |
