Crisis of Potable Water in Coochbehar Municipality Area, West Bengal, India

Abstract

This research paper focuses to address the present scenario of water resources of Coochbehar municipality. As per guidelines by Urban Development Plan Formation and Implementation (UDPFI) in India for domestic water supply in medium size towns in 135 litres of water per capita per day. It is revealed that the water consumption rate of the municipality was in 2011 is 11287770 lpcd whereas in reality is 7814010 lpcd .So,the demand- supply gap shows water deficit was-3473160 lpcd and it stands in 2021 is -3946920 lpcd.So it can be clearly mentioned that all the wards are facing potable water crisis. The mismanagement of urban authority along with the Increasing of population growth, Concretization of urban landuse, encroaching the open space which also helps to create water crisis in the municipality area. Therefore, necessary plans and management should be taken to overcome the problem.
