Abstract

The objective of this paper is to understand the history of caste, Anti-Caste Movements in India and Role of dalit Literature till Bhakti Period. In the medieval period, the Bhakti Movement which threw up radical thinkers and mystic reformers was yet another force that challenged the varna system and stratification of human society on the basis of caste. The movement cut across barriers of caste, creed, language and religion. The paper will also explore the issues of identity and various approaches to understand caste.
