This research paper focuses on the phonological and morphological deviations produced by dyslexic children at reading, writing and spelling level in comparison to the normal children. The aim of this study is to identify types of errors produced by dyslexic children. Generally, children with dyslexia are identified at the age of six or seven years. Sometime it can take more time to identify the problem and can lead to rejection and frustration. This results in continuous failure in the studies. This leads not only to individual failure but it also creates problems for other students in the class. Not all the schools are aware about this learning disorder called dyslexia therefore they do not pay much attention to such children. They are grouped under naughty students or careless students and after their continuous failure they become dropouts. This study aims to identify different types of linguistic errors at both phonological and morphological level. Research method and data collection-Data was collected from 20 dyslexic children and 20 normal children ranging from 6 to 12 years of age in Hindi and English language. Reading, writing and spelling tests were conducted. Data was collected through questionnaire method; short conversational interview and feedback from teachers were collected for further analysis. Conclusions: The results showed major deviations both at phonological and morphological level. Maximum errors were found at substitution level apart from addition, deletion and metathesis. These were some of the linguistic features. Apart from the linguistic features some non linguistic features were also observed which can help in identifying children with learning disorders at an early age. These were time taken to complete the test, hand writing as well as number of errors produced. |
