Abstract

The expression of power has always been recognized as an important function of architecture1. Buildings served as symbolic manifestations of a ruler’s political authority. Through their palaces, fortresses, ceremonial buildings, gateways and tombs, the powerful sought to proclaim and articulate their glory with impressive stylistic elaborations. This paper, seeks to examine and explain the architectural highlights and significance of the royal tombs of the Babis which appear to make a conscious statement of political distinction in the immediate locales and beyond.
