Abstract

The nature of world system has made much headway moving from a unipolar and then from bipolar to multi-polar world. The end of World War II led to the creation of a bipolar world system that was influenced by two super powers with distinct ideologies- USA and USSR. The disintegration of the USSR in 1991, one witnessed again unipolar system for a short while that was led by USA. Soon, the world system transformed into a multi-polar world with the emergence of India, Brazil, China and Japan etc. The 21st century is seen as the future of the Asian politics that will determine the nature of the world politics. Thus, in this scenario, India had to play a meaningful role in order to cope with these profound changes. The expansionist policy of China and growth of insurgency in North East states of India, India has to be careful in dealing with its neighbours. Thus, at best India’s Act East policy is best option to take care of its interest in South and Southeast Asia.
