Analysis of Trade Patterns and Bilateral Trade between India and other BRICS Countries

Abstract

International trade plays a vital role in the world economy. It enhances the social, economic and political ties between different economies of the world. BRICS is a association of five major emerging economies that is Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The study analyzes the trade pattern of BRICS economies as well as India‟s trade with other member countries using the Trade Intensity index. The study covers the time period from 2006 to 2015. The study found that trade percentage of BRICS countries in the world has been increased. India‟s trade relation with BRICS countries shows fluctuating trends. The bilateral trade between India and China has been increased but India‟s imports are more than its exports to China. On the basis of Trade Intensity Index the study found that India is beneficiary while trading with South Africa and Brazil as compared to Russia and China among BRICS countries. The Trade Intensity of India with BRICS has decreased.
