The present study delves into the socio-economic challenges faced by the Oraon community, a tribal group in the northeastern region of India. The study highlights the severe poverty and substandard living conditions that plague this community, driven by factors such as low literacy rates, inadequate access to healthcare, and limited economic opportunities. By analyzing various aspects of the Oraons' lives, including education, health, income, and housing, the research aims to provide a comprehensive overview of their living standards. The study is conducted in the Koch Bihar district, a region characterized by its rural landscape and historical significance, where the Oraons constitute a small yet significant portion of the population. Using a purposive sampling method, the research gathers data from 550 households, offering insights into the widespread poverty and the need for targeted interventions to improve the community's overall well-being. The paper underscores the importance of addressing these issues through policy changes and development programs tailored to the unique needs of the Oraon community, ultimately aiming to bridge the gap in socio-economic disparities. |
