Trafficking in Women: A Heinous Crime

Human trafficking forms one of the worst abuses of human rights today. It works as a complex, integrated, secret network which is very difficult to investigate. The phenomenon of trafficking often works based on the criteria of taking advantage of disadvantaged and downtrodden groups. Spreading as a worldwide phenomenon, it’s even plaguing the Indian society. Assam also forms a hotspot of this heinous crime. It is closely related with forced labour, child marriage, kidnapping, abduction, prostitution and even organ trade. This paper is therefore an attempt to understand the key concepts associated with the phenomenon, its scenario in India and Assam, extent of human abuse and its imprints on human life. The paper is based on analysis of secondary data.
