Analysis of Indian Government schemes to achieving the Gender Equality and Women Empowerment for Sustainable Development

Abstract

Gender equality is vital for smooth development of a nation. Achieving the United Nations goals Indian government is very serious. Gender equality ia an urgent mandate for all, as no society can develop economically, politically and socially, when about half of its population is sidelined. United Nation Sustainable Goal on gender equality is a necessity to instigate India into the developed future of India. The report of World Economic Forum, 2019 describe that the world is about 100 years away from complete gender equality. In this regards India’s ranks behind the many developing countries. SDGs-5 ambit covers eradication discrimination and violence against women and giving equal rights to access to property ownership and economic resources. It is an unquestionable fact that when girls and women enjoy equal opportunities, access and participation in all areas of society, they can not only transform their lives but also their family, village, state, nation and the world. In this research paper, it is an attempt to trace the working of Indian government to establish gender equality at various levels through, ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ for improving the sex ratio, Mudra Yojna Scheme for entrepreneur women to start new businesses and recently passed Women Reservation Act-2023 for allocation 33 percent of the seats in State Legislature Assemblies and Lok Sabha for women etc., Steps taken by Indian Government.
