This study investigates the impact of familial influences on female medical professionals in Jaipur, India, focusing on how parental education, occupation and socio-economic status shape their career choices. The study reveals significant parental influence in career decision-making of female medical professionals, with only 12% of respondents making independent choices. The findings highlight notable educational and occupational disparities between parents, with fathers generally having higher education levels and more diverse professional roles. The study also shows that 65% of respondents live in joint families and 45% come from rural backgrounds, challenging urban-centric assumptions about medical professionals. With 76% of respondents willing to recommend their profession, the research suggests that traditional family structures in India can positively support women's advancement in medicine, particularly through strong familial support systems. |
