The family relationship, functioning of the family, and psychological health of youths is a significant study for psychological well-being and family perspective. The study explored the relationship between family functioning, family relationship problems, and psychological well-being among youths in the north Indian region of India. Data were collected from a sample of 120 unmarried youths between 18 to 25 years through online and offline techniques. A quantitative research design was used, and further correlation was analysed for results. The Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scale (FACES-3) to assess family functioning, the Index of Family Relations (IFR) to measure family relationship problems, and Ryff’s Psychological Well-being Scale (PWB-42) to evaluate psychological well-being across its multiple domains. The findings indicated a significant positive connection between family cohesion, a subdomain of family functioning, and spheres of psychological well-being. This suggests that higher family cohesion is coupled with better psychological well-being among young adults. However, no significant relationship was identified between family adaptability, another subdomain of family functioning, and psychological well-being. Conversely, family relationship problems demonstrated a significant negative correlation with various aspects of psychological well-being. This indicates that higher levels of family conflict were linked to lower levels of psychological well-being. In conclusion, the results emphasize the critical role of family dynamics, particularly family cohesion and conflict resolution, in promoting the psychological well-being of young adults. These findings highlight the importance of addressing family relationship problems to support better mental health outcomes. |
