Impact of Quality of Work Life on Organizational Commitment Among Teachers: Evidence from Bihar

Abstract

Quality of work life and Organizational commitment are one of the two pivotal factors that plays an indispensable role in sound functioning of an organization, coupled with high employee satisfaction and productivity. In this context, the present study aims to gauge the impact of quality of work life on organizational commitment in higher educational governmental institutes of Bihar. The study was conducted on 175 college teachers (N=175) employed in various constituent colleges of Lalit Narayan Mithila University, Darbhanga, using Quality of Work Life Questionnaire (Haider, 2015) and Organizational Commitment Questionnaire (Mowday et al.,1979). Using multiple regression and Pearson correlation, it was found that quality of work life predicts organizational commitment. Dimension wise, it was revealed that among QWL, working conditions found to be the strongest predictor of OC, followed by communication system and interpersonal relation, skill development, meaningfulness of work and career progression and autonomy. Suggestions are further discussed.
