| Abstract | ||
Slums are defined as the characterized with incomplete urban civic amenities and services like lack of reliable housing, less education, substandard health conditions, insufficient clean water supply and poor water quality, reliable electricity, law enforcement and other inadequate basic facilities. Slums are challenging issues in present context in urban areas of developing countries. The trends of this informal settlement are growing gradually in Indian cities. This is found manly larger town to small town. The term slums which deteriorated after the original dwellers moved on to new and better parts of the city. These squatter settlements are seen in the vacant areas of municipality or notified area. The present paper has been composed to focus on housing status and water supply facilities of slum dwellers in Berhampore Municipality. Two Slum wards are selected for the present study i.e. Bildhar Bastee and Gandhi Colony which are located in Berhampore municipal area. Primary data as well as secondary data has been used to furnish the whole research work entirely. The methodology and techniques are also adopted to design the present paper. This chapter also tried to focus about some major problems in concerned area and outline measures to mitigate the great problems in the pattern housing status and water supply facilities of Slums settlement in Berhampore Municipal area. |
